Kara Heikkila, a member of the firm’s employment and labor group, focuses her practice on employment and labor law, business law, complex and commercial litigation, alternative dispute resolution, health care law, maritime personal injury defense, and insurance law.
Kara received her J.D., cum laude, from Seattle University School of Law in 1997. As an Idaho native, Kara received her B.S. in Health Care Administration with highest honors from Idaho State University in 1987. After earning her undergraduate degree, Kara spent 11 years working as a health care administrator in Oregon and Washington. While attending law school, she worked as a human resource manager for a northwest health care corporation, where she was responsible for all aspects of personnel and benefits administration, workers’ compensation, and risk management.
After graduating from law school, Kara spent 10 years in private practice in Washington, with a Seattle-based law firm, where she represented employers in Alaska and Washington in employment and work-related injury cases. Kara is currently licensed to practice in state and federal courts in Idaho, Washington, and Alaska; the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit; and the United States Supreme Court. She is a member of the American Bar Association; Idaho, Washington, and Alaska Bar Associations; Defense Research Institute; and the Idaho Association of Defense Counsel.
