Kara Heikkila is a member of the firm’s employment and litigation groups. Kara represents employers in all phases of employment law litigation and counseling including administrative work before the Idaho Human Rights Commission and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission as well as affirmative action/federal contractor compliance before the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs. She focuses the remainder of her practice on general civil litigation.
Kara has over 25 years of collective work advising employers on personnel and human resource matters. After earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Health Care Administration from Idaho State University, Kara spent 11 years working as a health care administrator in Oregon and Washington. While working as a regional human resource manager, she obtained her law degree from the Seattle University, where she focused her studies on employment and labor law. She then spent 10 years in private practice in Seattle, where she represented employers in Alaska and Washington in various employment matters. Kara moved home to her beloved Idaho in 2008 and joined Hawley Troxell in 2012.
Kara is currently licensed to practice in state and federal courts in Idaho, Washington, and Alaska; the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit; and the United States Supreme Court. She is a member of the American Bar Association; Idaho, Washington, and Alaska Bar Associations; the Federal Bar Association; and the Idaho Association of Defense Counsel.
