Joe McCollum is a Partner in the Litigation Practice Group where his practice emphasizes Health Care and Hospital Law; Medical and Professional Malpractice Defense: Insurance Coverage and Policy Defense; Professional Certification, Credentialing, and Licensure Disputes; and ERISA and Employer Medical/Welfare plan defense.
Mr. McCollum has served as lead trial attorney for Hawley Troxell in medical malpractice defense cases. He also advises health industry professionals on loss prevention, risk management, alternative dispute resolution, and other techniques to minimize litigation and regulatory risks and costs.
Mr. McCollum has participated in or directed defense litigation in other professional negligence, professional rights and peer review, general liability, contribution, coverage and Errors and Omissions fields. He has participated in mediation and served as a non-judge hearing officer to resolve disputes.
Since 1977, Mr. McCollum has served as outside legal counsel for the Idaho Hospital Association. As a result, he has participated in the formulation and evaluation of legislation impacting Idaho’s hospital and healthcare industry, including a series of state tort reform changes, on behalf of hospitals, physician practice groups, and other traditional medical injury claim defendants.
Advising employers on workers’ compensation issues in recent years, Mr. McCollum formerly maintained an active workers’ compensation defense practice before the Idaho Industrial Commission and Supreme Court for many years on behalf of a major self-insured Idaho employer and later for a large state surety.
