Hawley Troxell Hires Attorney Bret Busacker

Busacker is a tax lawyer specializing in employee benefits, ERISA, executive compensation, and related tax areas. Having recently moved here from Cincinnati, Ohio, he and his family have roots in Idaho. Busacker joins Hawley Troxell’s Tax Practice Group that provides a full range of services involving all aspects of federal and state tax law, including: tax planning, tax appeals and dispute resolution, and estate planning.
Busacker is a former partner at Thompson, Hine, LLP in Cincinnati, Ohio where he designed, drafted, and amended benefit plans and executive arrangements; advised plan sponsors and plan service providers; counseled benefit plan fiduciaries on tax and ERISA compliance requirements; advised on compensation and benefits aspects of mergers, acquisitions, and bankruptcies; counseled publicly-traded employers and non-profit/charitable organizations. From 2002 to 2005, Busacker was an attorney with Ulmer & Berne LLP in Cleveland, Ohio. He worked as in-house counsel from 2000 to 2002 at Ernst & Young LLP in Cleveland, Ohio.
Busacker received his J.D. from the Ohio State University College of Law in Columbus Ohio, his M.B.A. from Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, and his B.A. from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
In addition to having written articles, an example of Busacker’s presentations was an employee benefits seminar titled New Rules for Plan Fiduciaries. His community involvement includes being a Board Member/Treasurer for Summer Work Experience in Law, Inc., a charitable organization created to improve minority access to legal education and work experience plus being a Board Member for the J. Reuben Clark Law Society—Columbus Chapter, an alumni association organized to promote responsible practices in the legal community.
Bret Busacker is licensed to practice law in Ohio. He is not licensed in Idaho yet.
